We will soon be going to the HE Fair. To get the most
out of this experience you need to be properly
prepared. Look at the PowerPoint presentations that
are linked to from this website. Spend at least an
hour or two on the UCAS website looking at courses.
Ask your teachers. Ask year 13 students for
advice. Don’t waste time at the Fair because you do
not know what questions to ask!
Common misconceptions!
Uni is only for posh, rich kids…
I won’t get any financial help to go….
It is a waste of money…
It will be boring….
I will have to live in squalor…
This is NOT TRUE. Gordon Brown changed the rules
about funding last year so people whose parents earn up to
£60K get some free funding! The government want
50% of 18/19 year olds to go to uni. Graduates earn
an average of a quarter of a million quid more than non
graduates– even after taking 3 or 4 years out to get their
degree. You can do courses in ANYTHING! It will
only be boring if you choose something you are not
interested in! Halls these days are like palaces
compared to years ago! If your parents went to uni
they will be amazed– en suite bathrooms, flat shares,
wifi….
