homesickness
Bedsit

For most students, going to college is the first time you will have experienced living away from home. And whether you were apprehensive about leaving, or couldn't wait to pack your spotted hankie and stick, fending for yourself with no one showing concern for your health, feelings or state of your underpants/homework can be a harsh awakening to the real world. Homesickness is the main cause for students dropping out, alongside lack of funds. Parents' splitting up is another common factor affecting students - some parents, who no longer get along, wait until their children have got to university/college before splitting, feeling (wrongly) that their kids will be better able to cope. It is actually very bad timing, because the student already aware of how life has changed having left the security of home and school, now feels they are losing the stable home background they are used to. Everything is changing at once.
What to do
Chat to your welfare officer.
Chat to your friends and try to widen your circle of acquaintances
Stick around the campus or college. You may want to go home, but visiting home more frequently can make it worse! So try and get involved in college groups and extra curricular activities, creating a new life for yourself.
